About the Imagery Hub

What is the Imagery Hub?

The Imagery Hub is a community space for exploring and discussing imagery datasets, managed by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

About the DCCEEW

The DCCEEW uses satellite imagery to protect and manage NSW natural resources and address environmental challenges. This technology helps monitor climate patterns, land use, and environmental changes, providing real-time and historical data to support informed policy decisions.

Satellite imagery is crucial for tracking changes in habitats and ecosystems. DCCEEW monitors land clearing, drought impacts, and other changes affecting biodiversity. High-resolution images detect changes in vegetation and invasive species, aiding in early intervention and conservation efforts. This continuous monitoring enables effective conservation strategies and protection of endangered species.

Satellite imagery also supports disaster response and recovery. DCCEEW uses it to assess natural disasters like bushfires, floods, and cyclones. This data is essential for coordinating emergency responses, allocating resources, and planning recovery operations. Post-disaster imagery evaluates response effectiveness and enhances future resilience.

Data on the Imagery Hub

The datasets in the Imagery Hub are accessible via the SEED portal or on request, for all NSW Government employees. The Hub offers open imagery data and a platform for interaction. NSW Government employees can access datasets without an account, but creating one allows participation in forums and notifications about new datasets.

You can enable forum notifications for threads you post or follow, and for comments on threads you interact with. Additionally, you can set up alerts for new datasets by enabling the General notification option in your settings.

Open Data Roadmap

DCCEEW is committed to increasing the number and variety of datasets available on SEED and the Imagery Hub, supporting innovation and collaboration for better outcomes in New South Wales.

Feedback and Innovation

We welcome feedback on imagery datasets through our Forum and suggestions for new data on the Contact Us page or our group mailbox, [email protected]. We'd love to hear how you've used our data!
