SATELLITE IMAGERY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The role of Planet and Triplesat imagery in spatial analysis and monitoring in Gunnedah Council

Objectives

Multiple Council departments require current land use information.  Our integrated GIS platform provides staff access to Planet Global Monthly imagery for comparing recent and historical imagery alongside cadastral coundaries, planning data and property/rating information.

Planet daily imagery and Skysat tasking supports targeted requests and projects, including recent flood impact assessment in Gunnedah and vacant land idenification.  

Triplesat 80cm imagery provides the highest-resolution satellite coverage across the entire shire, including remote rural areas.

Outcomes

Vacant Land Verification

Skysat tasked imagery was cross-referenced with properties flagged as vacant land in our Property and Rates system, identifying new developments and helping ensure accurate rates and wastes charges. 

Gunnedah Flood Imagery

PlanetScope imagery captured recent flooding at peak impact, providing valuable imagery for response and planning.

Enhanced Rural Coverage

Triplesat enables significantly improved resolution for remote regional towns previously limited to lower quality imagery.
